Sri
Lankan apparel industry leaders Brandix arrive in Bangladesh
--World class thread manufacturing plant A&E (Bangladesh)
to be formally inaugurated on August 23 --
A team of top apparel sector entrepreneurs from Sri Lanka
arrives in Bangladesh next week to formally launch American
& Efird (Bangladesh) Ltd., a joint venture sewing thread
manufacturing operation that will significantly strengthen
the growing ready made garments industry of Bangladesh.
Directors of Brandix Lanka Limited, Sri Lanka’s largest
apparel exporter, led by Aslam Omar will join A&E President
Fred Jackson in the formal inauguration of the company which
has operated a manufacturing plant at Islampur, Gazipur for
three years as a satellite plant of A&E Lanka’s
state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka.
A joint venture between Brandix Lanka Ltd, Brandot International
Ltd and American & Efird Inc., American & Efird (Bangladesh)
Ltd., will be officially launched on the 23rd of August, 2007.
The company’s growth plan in Bangladesh includes providing
more employment opportunities and offering training and development
to assist in increasing knowledge and skill levels in the
manufacture of sewing and embroidery thread.
Commenting on the formal inauguration of A&E (Bangladesh)
Mr. Omar said: “Brandix is very excited about the prospects
for its operations in Bangladesh. A&E is projected to
play a significant role in helping to meet the huge demand
for thread Bangladesh’s apparel manufacturing industry,
whose exports are in the region of US$ 9 Billion a year.’
Primary amongst the many benefits the ready made garment industry
will derive from the presence of American & Efird Bangladesh
will be the range of A&E sewing thread and Lurex branded
metallic embroidery and sewing thread, all renowned globally
for their superior performance with due recognition from leading
global retailers. The company provides a comprehensive range
of colors, available globally in addition to a Dye-to-match
(DTM) service.
One of the cleanest manufacturing operations in Sri Lanka,
the ISO 14001:1996 certified A&E Lanka received the prestigious
Excellence in Social Responsibility Award last year in the
‘Preservation of the Environment’ category from
the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), the
national trade association of the USA that encompasses apparel,
footwear and other sewn product companies and their suppliers.
The satellite plant in Bangladesh is designed and operated
along the same lines and can be considered one of the most
environment-friendly manufacturing facilities in the country.
Brandix Lanka has also established a strong presence in India
with the setting up of Brandix India Apparel City, (BIAC)
in Andhra Pradesh. The 1,000 acre apparel city is one of the
largest and most advanced manufacturing parks in the world
and envisages a ‘fibre-to-store’ model for some
of the world’s top apparel manufacturers. Several leading
international apparel and accessory manufacturers have already
confirmed their commitment to set up plants at The BIAC which
aims to build capabilities in spinning, fabric, accessory
and apparel manufacture supported by services such as logistics,
training facilities, laboratories and other ancillary requirements,
making it a fully-integrated one-stop-shop. When fully functional,
BIAC is expected to act as a strong catalyst for the development
of the regional economy.
