Brandix Sponsors International Conference On Business Management

Brandix Lanka Limited, Sri Lanka's single largest exporter, will sponsor the forthcoming Third International Conference on Business Management organised by the University of Sri Jayawardenapura. The Conference will be held on the 17th of March 2006, with this year's theme being "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - Profits & Beyond".

This year's conference is an annual event organized by the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the pioneer in management education in Sri Lanka.  As per the organizers, this year’s highly topical theme of Corporate Social Responsibility is an increasingly important part of the business environment.  Dr Aruna Gamage, Conference Chair for ICBM-2006 & Senior Lecturer – Faculty of Human Resources Management, was pleased that Brandix is supporting this event.  CSR is a subject that is integral to Brandix' day to day operations.  The Company is focused on managing its business processes in a manner that produces an overall positive impact on society with its CSR initiatives aligned not only to enhance the competitiveness of the business but also to maximize the value of wealth creation for society.

“CSR is the contribution of the businesses to the sustainable development. More than ever, corporate behavior must not only ensure returns to share holders, wages to employees, and good services to customers, but must also respond to societal and environmental concerns and values” stated Dr Gamage. “Hence, it is immensely important to examine how businesses are responsive to stakeholders’ legal, ethical, social and environmental expectations through corporate social responsibility. We provide, therefore, a stimulating forum to bring together researchers and professionals from both academia and industry to share ideas, exchange knowledge and consider new advanced applications on business management related issues, targeting specific objectives” added Dr Gamage.

The key note address will be delivered by Professor Stoner, Professor of Management Systems of Fordham University, New York and Chair holder of the James A.F. Stoner Chair in Global Sustainability at Fordham University's Graduate School of Business.  Professor Stoner’s current projects and interests include inquiring into new ways to bring about organizational and societal change and transformation in a sustainable world.  In mid-2003, he started exploring the role of spirituality in individual and organizational excellence and transformation and in achieving a global business, social, and political environment that is sustainable and just.

Prior to the Conference, Professor Stoner will chair a business discussion to create a forum among industry specialists, business practitioners and academics. Professor Stoner would share his experiences with the participants of the business discussion on the theme of “Global sustainability through Corporate Social Responsibility”.  Other participants at the forum will include Chairman BOI, Lakshman R Watawala, Director Brandix, Trevine Jayasekera, Director Post Graduate Institute of Management, Professor Gunapala Nanayakkara, and Managing Director Eagle Insurance, Chandra Jayaratne.  These industry leaders will make presentations on the CSR practices within their own organisations followed by an interactive session where the panelists will engage in questions and answer sessions.

The Conference, to be held on March 17th at the Ceylon Continental, will have 56 technical and research papers presented with over 250 local and foreign participants.
