Donates 2.5 Million to Families of Navy Personnel
The Brandix CSR Centre donated Rs. 2.5 million to the family
members of naval personnel, who lost their lives in a suicide
attack near the transit camp in Digampatana, Habarana recently.
The initial presentation was made to families of two late
servicemen at a simple ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters
in Colombo on October 31, 2006 by Mr. Feroz Omar, Director,
Brandix Lanka and Mr. Trevine Jayasekera, Director Finance,
Brandix Lanka, in the presence of Commander of the Navy Vice
Admiral Wasantha Karannnagoda Rsp usp ndc psc.
The organization has pledged to work towards ensuring the
welfare of children affected by the armed conflict. Speaking
at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Omar said, “this is
the first step in a series of initiatives towards ensuring
the welfare of children affected by the conflict; we will
also work with the two other services, police and any other
relevant authority towards this end.”
Commander Prasanna Pathiraja attached to the Naval Welfare
Directorate said, “We appreciate this magnanimous gesture
made by Brandix. An action of this nature keeps the spirit
of our personnel high and is reflective of taking care of
our brave sailors’ families by being a pillar of support
in their time of need.”
Among the recipients was Wasantha Kumari Bandara from Pilimatalawe,
Kandy, and Lakshika Ruwanthi from Galle. Ms. Bandara’s
husband Petty Officer Wasundara served in the Navy for 16
years. Ms. Ruwanthi lost her husband Petty Officer Jayalath,
who had served the Navy for eight years. Both officers left
behind two girls, a three-year-old daughter, Navodya Gimhani
and a one year and nine-month-old daughter, Lakmini Dinith
Priyarani respectively.
