Brandix Lanka makes US$10 million
investment on denim plant
Apparel
giant, Brandix Lanka, confident of success post-2005, embarked
on their latest venture - a fully-automated state-of-the-art
denim manufacturing facility and washing plant bringing in
an investment of US$ 10 million.
The ground-breaking ceremony was held on the 2nd of December
with Mr M H Omar - the group's founder and Mr Ken Balendra
- Chairman/Brandix Lanka laying the traditional foundation
stone. Situated with the scenic backdrop of the Avissawella
hills within the CV Gunaratne Industrial Park in Seethawaka,
the entire plant will occupy a floor area of approximately
120,000 sq ft housing cutting, manufacturing, washing and
finishing facilities.
Targeted to commence full-scale production by May 2005, the
plant is expected to produce over 3 million units of denim
jeans annually. A strategic partnership focusing on catering
to the Levi Strauss & Company 501 denim program is already
under discussion. To support this fully-automated plant and
training of personnel, a six-member cross-functional team
from Levi's Spain will provide the initial training in the
areas of manufacturing, maintenance, industrial engineering
and quality.
Feroz Omar - Director/Brandix Lanka placed the group's confidence
in the future of the apparel industry in Sri Lanka stating
that such "state-of-the-art fully automated facilities
will provide the leading edge necessary to maximize the efficiencies
and productivity". He added, "we are also happy to enhance
our product capability and add yet another world famous brand
to our portfolio".
Brandix Lanka, Sri Lanka's single largest exporter, positioning
itself as a total solutions provider in their product categories
- casual wear and intimate apparel, is consistently making
substantial investments in technology and innovation.
