We believe her future should be free from want of water and we believe it's time to do something about it.
Sad, shocking, surprising..call it what you will, but the average woman in a village spends up to six hours a day or 84 days of the year, searching for clean water. With both the incidence and severity of drought increasing in frequency and scale, the lack of water has become our greatest national crisis, affecting hundreds of thousands of families with a bleak and dusty future.
Brandix believes it is time to reverse the figures through a concerted effort in providing water to as many needy communities as possible. Our own association with water is, of course, based on practical experience: effluent water treatment is an important part of our own manufacturing process. Each of our wet-processing facilities - Brandix Textiles, Brandix Finishing, American & Efird Lanka, and Quenby Lanka Prints continues to safeguard the environment from the by-products of textile manufacturing through the recycling and reuse of water. And all of our manufacturing facilities demonstrate environmental leadership through a strict adherence to global compliance and environmental standards.
From 2005, Brandix engineering teams will begin the vital task of constructing and maintaining desalination plants in strategically located areas along the southern and western coastal belt. The process is two-fold: firstly, to convert sea water into fresh, drinkable water, and secondly, to distribute this to the local populace through the most efficient and effective mechanisms available. Some plants will even be mobile, transportable to areas in the country that require urgent flood relief.
Our corporate social responsibility initiative will be on-going, a long-term programme with new desalination plants built every year, to achieve what we believe to be the worthwhile goal of increasing the availability of water and reducing the time spent collecting it...Of bettering people's lives.
