The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has felicitated Brandix Lanka Ltd. for the donation of 1414 pints of blood collected from the Group's employees in late 2009.
More than a thousand Brandix Associates across all locations donated blood in a massive Group-wide campaign ably assisted by personnel from the Blood Bank.
This is an annual community initiative of the Group. In 2007, Brandix donated 560 pints of blood collected at six locations while in 2008, 1721 pints of blood were collected from 19 locations.
"The response we receive from our Associates every year is most encouraging and demonstrates that we have a workforce of good citizens who care for others," Dhammika Abeygoonawardhane, Head of Group Compliance at Brandix said.
"This effort by Brandix, we hope, will help save many lives. This initiative is an example of how corporate entities can contribute to the wellbeing of the community," he added.
A certificate of appreciation was presented last week to Brandix by the National Blood Transfusion Service in appreciation of this contribution. The certificate was received on behalf of the donors by Brandix Associate S. M. Tharanga.
A special request was made to the Brandix Group by Dr. Anoja Priyadarshani of the NBTS to organize a blood donation campaign in April as there is a lack of blood during that period. "We promised to look into the possibility of arranging another blood drive to fulfill this special requirement," Mr. Abeygoonawardhane said.
Brandix pioneered the concept of total solutions in the Sri Lankan apparel industry. The Group's CSR efforts are driven by the central corporate theme 'Water is Life' and constitute a long term commitment to increasing the availability of water and the provision of safe drinking water to those most in need. The Group's community outreach initiatives also include providing water through desalination plants, wells and pipe-borne water to communities in and around its manufacturing plants and the improvement of sanitation facilities in needy areas.
