Textured Jersey PLC, a leading producer of value-added knitted fabric, has come forward to support young fashion designer Matheesha Palihawadana with a scholarship to pursue higher education in his chosen field.
A final year design student at the Academy of Design (AOD), Matheesha was awarded the scholarship in recognition of the exceptional creativity, skill and fabric research evident in the innovative designs he developed for a unique collection of evening wear with knitted fabric manufactured by Textured Jersey.
This collection was presented at a fashion show to a high-profile audience which included international designers, at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) organised by the AOD.
Textured Jersey supported the festival as its Official Fabric Partner.
"Matheesha is symbolic of the potential that exists in Sri Lanka to produce world class designers," a spokesperson for Textured Jersey said. "We believe that investment in the development of design talent will be increasingly important for Sri Lanka's apparel industry to move up the value chain."
Besides awarding a scholarship to Matheesha, Textured Jersey has also initiated an exchange programme with the Academy of Design to enhance the skills of Sri Lanka's young fashion designers, as part of the company's sustainability-driven corporate agenda. This programme will commence in January 2012.
A specialist in the manufacture of high quality, weft-knitted and dyed stretch fabrics, Textured Jersey is a supplier for top-notch international brands of the calibre of Victoria's Secret, Marks & Spencer and Intimissimi.
